Top Ten Cinematographers; The Difference Between Cinematography And Videography

    By Anna Hill

We are filmmakers, making real-life films, and everyone is going to love being in the spotlight on your huge day. My personal experience is that people feel energized by a film crew and love being in the spotlight. I'm sure you'll agree given the popularity of Hollywood on mainstream culture today. Let me put it another way: If you never become famous, your wedding day is the time for you and your guests to feel famous. And who knows, hire the right person, among Top ten cinematographers, and your video might become viral.

Cinematography: In the traditional sense, cinematography refers to shooting actual film or digital cinema with a large crew. It also implies other aspects of the traditional film making the world - massive sets, dollies, cranes, and track for the camera and operator to ride while filming, along with massive lighting fixtures and more.

Videography: Videography refers to capturing images via digital format, not traditional film stock. There may or may not be sets, lighting and other elements involved. Videography is usually not associated with film making, but it sees increasing adoption here. A videographer is usually a camera operator on a small crew or working solo.

In addition to the information above, there are other key differences between a cinematographer and videographer. Cinematography usually involves a large crew with a Director of Photography orchestrating the camera and lighting departments. There are more decision makers on set from the Producer, Director, Assistant Director to the Director of Photography. Camera operators work the cameras, while the cinematographer ensures that every decision benefits the vision of the film, the director and the objectives of the project.

Every wedding cinematographer will have their own style, but there are some general styles to look for. This includes Documentary Interview Style: Interview of couple talking about how they met/fell in love interspersed with footage from the wedding.

Angle Radio and Framing - The picture's perspective is comprised of the proportion of a picture's width to its stature. This perspective in cinematography is essential in light of the fact that diverse proportions have differing stylish impacts.

Combined Documentary and Cinematic: Combined use of natural audio and video combined with cinematic storytelling with the additional use cinematic tools such as steadicams, dollies, creative focusing, and lots of focus on the details. This is our favorite.

Of course, the qualities that make a great videographer go beyond technology. You can't choose a professional for your needs based on whether they call themselves a videographer or a cinematographer. In fact, videographers are becoming the preferred option for most clients, whether you're in need of capturing the story of your wedding or the story of your company. Videographers are dedicated to creativity, style, and creating a mesmerizing story that doubles as art.
