Is Video Surveillance Orlando, Florida Going Too Far

    By Raymond Murray

While there are a myriad of concerns regarding the erosion of privacy in our society, there is no doubt that we all enjoy the elevated technological advancements. The two do go hand-in-hand, as it is this technology which makes the eye in the sky possible. Nowhere is this more true than in video surveillance Orlando, Florida.

Most of us probably think we have obvious boundaries in our lives, but we can be mistaken. Anyone who pays for a security system that includes cameras inside the home is putting their privacy at risk in a big way. While we hope that only scrupulous people are employed by these companies, the reality is that such a job actually attracts those who might want to watch us outside the rules of their jobs, and most certainly for the wrong reasons.

Becoming accustomed to being observed by employers or coworkers is something many of us will have to face. Retail employees have long understood that they are on camera all day long, and those cameras are generally out in the open. However, office environment employers also use cameras on their workforce, but sometimes they are better hidden and easily overlooked.

We are all pretty accustomed to being recorded whenever we are a customer, but what about the watchful eyes outside the retail establishment doors. Large parking lots are often under CCT cameras, and most everyone is quite all right with this, but we might not realize that even busy city sidewalks are being watched in this way.

This city in the Sunshine State has a dark secret, in fact. Because of the number of recreational parks and sites of interest, a person can expect to be on-camera pretty much anywhere they go outside of their homes or hotel rooms. In fact, the inside of the hotel room, or rest rooms and changing areas are about the only locations that are still off limits.

It is a nasty oversight for anyone to assume that they cannot, or are not being watched through open windows. When a neighbor has a security system, for example, they are not supposed to point this toward their neighbors. However, there are always going to be people who break those basic social codes.

As privacy is too quickly becoming a thing of the past, it is up to us to determine just how far we allow this trend to continue. We all have a natural awareness to being watched, but even that instinct has begun to fade. As a people we are simply becoming too accustomed to being viewed all the time, and this is a dangerous oversight in society.

In a city that boasts so many amusement parks and family vacation destinations, residents really do have to accept a lot of the cameras on the streets. This is an obvious means by which children can be kept safe in an environment that might attract pedophiles. However, everyone still has a duty to keep tabs on who is watching and what their purpose might be for doing so.
