    Top Classic Alien Encounter Novel

    By Brian Robinson

People are always the heroes or main characters in novels on alien invasion. It is rare to find a serious alien encounter novel that tackles the struggle between animals or birds from different planets. In most cases, the plots are about retaliation after attack, missions that encounter aliens or defense during attacks. The heroes have a responsibility of protecting their world and people from enslavement.

Enders Game is written by Orson Scott and was released in 1985. Very little was known about space but this title maintains relevance because of its narrative style. It is very violent, characteristic of perceptions in that era and the main reason it remains popular today. It features children who are training at a space station preparing to face aliens. It won both Hugo and Nebula awards.

Starship Troopers was released in 1959 and remains relevant to-date. It is a response to criticism for political views on nuclear tests made at the time. The author, Heinlein was attacked for his support of nuclear tests carried out by his government. He created this book in response. Little did he know it would be a classic in the sci-fi category.

Childhood Ends was likely inspired by events towards the end of World War II. At this time, there were a lot of blimps floating over London. The narrative involves friendly Overlords who help to resolve all conflicts and in the process end all wars on earth. They help to create a single government that rules the entire world. The problem is that they work from their space ships and have refused to reveal their origin. This misunderstanding is what causes conflict.

The War of Worlds is considered a forerunner to all other novels written in this category. It was in fact sometimes classified as scientific romance. The author finds it fun to obliterate his neighborhood and in fact succeeds. He describes the killing to a friend as eccentric and painful. The book came out in 1898 and continues to baffle readers especially in the way an entire neighborhood is destroyed.

The Mote in Gods Eye falls into the futuristic category despite its release in 1974. The author envisions a 3016 where The Second Empire of Man has conquered the world. Man shuttles between thousands of stars under his watch at supersonic speed using Anderson Drive. There is no fear about extraterrestrial invasion until one of his ships returns with a dead alien. He has to send an expedition to find out more about this life. The reader will enjoy the search.

Spin is a sci-fi marvel that incorporates recent space discoveries in its narrative. This is why the book has gained traction with readers today. The first scene features a boy observing the sky with fascination. This is after man conquered the moon and sun but cannot explain the tides. Creative ingenuity helps Robert Wilson to capture the attention of the reader in this book released in 2006.

The Day of Triffids was released by John Wyndham in 1951. This classic is also an anchor among the post apocalyptic books written. Most of the world population is blinded by a comet shower. It is upon the few with sight to reconstruct the world. They do so while still fighting triffids, carnivorous plants that are also mobile.
