Add A Touch Of Glamour With Fendi Eau De Parfum

    By Nancy Brown

If you want to feel like a million dollars, it helps to wear something luxurious by a designer label. It doesn't have to be an entire designer outfit, though. Even just one small item, such as a Fendi eau de parfum, will add a little glamour to your life.

Adele Casagrand had a shop selling fur and leather goods, which she started in Rome in 1918. When she married Edoardo Fendi in 1925, they changed the name of the store to reflect their last name. Their business grew into what would become one of the world's most famous designer brands, especially after fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld started working for them in 1965.

The company sells ready-to-wear designer clothing, scarves, shoes, jewelry, watches, sunglasses and other accessories. However, it's most famous for its bags. The Baguette is as iconic a fashion item as blue jeans or the little black Chanel dress and many a woman has spent her entire salary on this classic handbag with the interlocked Fs that make up the company's logo.

It was in 1985 that the fashion house followed in the footsteps of other leading designers by launching their own designer fragrance. Fendi was a feminine, floral eau de parfum with a hint of the Orient in its base notes. The combination of scents like rosewood, bergamot, rose, lily of the valley, jasmine, cedarwood, patchouli, amber and musk was an instant hit and more fragrances followed in its wake.

While a concentrated perfume is the strongest version of a scent, an eau de parfum is a more affordable option. Also known as an EDP, it contains in the region of fifteen percent of the oils that make up the scent, mixed into alcohol and pure water. This is still a strong formula and is a good investment because you only need to use a little at a time, making the bottle last for a long time.

A less concentrated version of a fragrance is an eau de toilette. This is also called an EDT. With the scented oils comprising about ten percent of its make-up, it's lighter than an EDP. Its fragrance fades more rapidly, though, so a bottle of EDT won't last you as long as an EDP.

For summer or for everyday wear, an EDT is perfect because it is light and refreshing. A stronger EDP is great for winter, in the evening or for those special occasions. It can quickly become overpowering if you don't apply it right, though. The best way to apply an EDP is to spray some of it in front of and slightly above you and then step through the fragrant cloud, letting the fine, scented mist settle on your body, hair and clothes.

Devotees of Fendi perfumes were devastated when in 2006 all the existing fragrances were discontinued. This was a decision by the company's new owner, LVMH, who instead focused on releasing new fragrance lines. Luckily you can still find bottles of the discontinued fragrances, including the original eau de parfum, at auctions online, at estate sales and even at charity shops.
